Welcome to the January Power Rankings! In this Power Rankings, you'll find a direct link to a Deck Guide and a veedeo for every archetype. I want to remind you that I'm trying to be as objective as I can, but I recognize that player experience means a lot in Modern, and a player that knows their deck extremely well can be much better off playing their rogue deck rather than an established deck. Murders of Karlov Manor is out and it impacted Modern with few cards. The first one is without a doubt Leyline of the Guildpact , which slots perfectly in Scion of Draco decks. The second is the cycle of surveil lands, which are slotting in any deck with fetchlands, since you're happy to gain value from your fetchland at the expanse of your land coming into play tapped. Control mages can still find success thanks to white's cheap removal spells in Prismatic Ending and Leyline Binding , powered up with The One Ring to turn the corner and go over the top of your opponent. Narset, Parter of Veils and Day's Undoing is a combo that you'll use to finish your opponent off, refilling your hand and making sure they can't come back after dealing with their board state.

I think the deck is still strong enough to be a top contender but definitely worse due to its rough matchups against Rhinos and Yawgmoth, which are sitting on top of the standings. This September is an especially exciting month to rank Standard decks, because these rankings help show the aftermath of the latest Standard rotation. For those who have been following these rankings each month, it makes sense to expect new decks and major changes to the rankings after a set rotation. The good cards in Standard that didn't rotate out of the format are even better now because the format is a bit smaller.
