A delicious and my favorite everyday meat and lentil curry recipe. I love urad gosht it and my family like the taste of this curry. I find it really easy to make that is why it is in my everyday recipes. It is kind of our comfort food because of simplicity and taste, urad gosht.

Urad gosht is a popular dish of district Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, my home town. You can safely call it our national dish if we could name a national dish of Bijnor. It is so popular that if you ask anyone from my hometown- chances are they will all say there is no food like Urad Gosht. I am aware that lot of my city friends and lot of you would not know about it but I have to document the recipe as this dish defines who I am and where I come from. It is a simple dish- meat cooked with black Urad! If you call it daal gosht in front of people from my town chances are they will get offended.

Maash ki daal or white urad dal has a slightly thick texture unlike other lentils. It has a nutty, warm and savory taste that goes very well with Indian breads like naan or tandoori roti. A tempering of ginger, red or green chillies, and mint adds a kick to daal maash like nothing else! This is a vegan recipe and both instant pot and stovetop versions are included.
